FR for MySQL version - Add Server Dialog Box

Hey Tony....been playing with LA after purchasing it a day back and a couple of requests regarding the Add Server dialog box.

1) when adding a new server - once you add the minimum required details, ie: alias, host, username and password - it would be nice little feature that once you drop-down the database list combo-box that it shows you the databases that are tied to that username/password on the server. This way it allows you to pick one of the databases instead of having to manually enter the database in. On that note, though....see next point.

1b) once you enter a server and a database name...it adds the server to the left-side tree with whatever databases that are tied to that username/password, so I think adding a database name seems to be an extra step that's not really needed since there may be more than 1 database tied to a username/password on a server.

One or most of the other MySQL programs out there basically work this way...I can't remember which one in particular though.

2) add a "Test Connection" button on the Add Server dialog box; again...saving time by clicking OK (dialog box goes way), then double-clicking the server to try to connect. If there's an error....you have to go back and edit the properties and do that all over again to make sure it can connect. (the other proggies have this feature as well and it really makes it handy to quickly test the connection in case a detail in wrong and you can fix it right there).

3) Not really related to the above.....to take off the "personalized menu" feature on the File and Help menubar drop-downs...esp. the "File" menu. There's only 3 functions there and it's a little annoying that it "hides" the only other 2 functions except "Exit". Once clicked it shows, but resets itself once you close LA down. Same with the Help menu. Just to clarify the "personalized menu"....I'm referring to the upside triangle at the bottom of the drop-down menu that shows the hidden functions. Not a big deal, but a small improvement in that helps with the overall experience. 8)

4) Finally...I assume this "internal Forum" is only meant for "Registered Users" as it's not viewable to the public, but yet you have a "public" Forum as well! So where do we post as the Public Forum seems to have more action. 8) I'm a little confused there!

Any other ideas that pop up....I'll surely post them up! Again...great job on LA....I'm really looking forward to relying on it now!

Cheers!

Hi Woodie, You are supposed to

Hi Woodie,
You are supposed to leave the initial database as the Mysql database, all other databases are then automaticly listed. The initial database is used to create the primary connection to the server. If you are using a hosting provider you can't do the MySQL database, but that is how it's designed.
In a environment where you have full access to the server, the way it is now is far more convienent than the way the "other" guys do it. You setup your connection once and that's it, you never have to register databases individually.
The Version 2.0 has a test connection button in the add server dialog and a slew of other improvments
The SMF forum is supposed to be a community forum for all users to use. This registered users forum is for paying customers and I will always answer posts here first and give them more priority.
I can change your user name in the forum, the automation script that creates it for you at purchase time uses your email address as the username.

oh ok cool....and yep...it's

oh ok cool....and yep...it's very nice not to have to register EACH database as a "connection profile"....just the server and then the relative databases that are assigned to the admin username/password pop up. very nice indeed!

excellent on the v2 improvements and nice to have this little internal forum as well. You may want to think about having a main forum for the public and a private section on it for registered members viewing-only on the forum....I'm not familiar with SMF forums, but this is quite easy with vBulletin, but either way requires work. 8)

Anyway...new v2 screenshot looks yummy!

Hi, Thanks, version 2.0 is

Hi,
Thanks, version 2.0 is going to rock, see the new announcment on the main page.
I think I will probably add a way to manually register a database as well since some databases like Firebird don't have a way to list all the databases on a server. Right now Version two has a fully working query editor that works seamlessly on MySQL or PostgreSQL, I think you will really like it. The first beta is going to be focused on the server explorer (adding new users, databases, backupsrestores etc and the query editor. Each beta will be geared toward specific working areas of the product.
